What is the AI Readiness Assessment?
Most businesses know they should be using AI. Far fewer know whether they're actually ready to. Steelhead's AI Readiness Assessment answers that question with a clear score and a specific next step, in about five minutes.
The assessment looks at five things that determine whether AI investments will pay off in your business: your strategy, how AI fits into your daily work, the state of your data, how prepared your team is, and the policies you have in place to manage risk. These are the same areas that decide whether AI becomes a real advantage or an expensive distraction.
Why take it? Because most AI advice is generic. A consultant tells you to "implement AI" without ever looking at whether your data is clean, whether your team has been trained, or whether you have a written policy. The result is wasted budgets, abandoned tools, and quiet exposure to risks nobody flagged. This assessment cuts through that. It tells you exactly where you stand, what to do next, and whether a custom AI build is the right move for you right now or whether you'd be better off with something simpler first.
What you get: a score from 0 to 100, a breakdown of how you scored across the five areas, the stage your business is in (Ad Hoc, Exploring, Operational, or Transformational), and a recommendation tailored to your specific gaps. If your business isn't ready for a custom AI engagement, the assessment tells you that directly. We'd rather lose a sale than sell you something you can't get value from.

About the assessment
How long does the assessment take?
About five minutes. Most people answer 17 to 22 questions; the assessment skips questions that aren't relevant based on your earlier answers.
Is my data stored?
Not unless you choose to share it. Your answers stay in your browser session while you take the assessment. They disappear when you close the tab. If you enter your business email at the end to get the written report, that's the only data we keep.
What is the methodology behind the scoring?
The assessment is built on two established frameworks for measuring AI readiness: the Gartner AI Maturity Model and ISO/IEC 42001. We score five areas (strategy, processes, data, workforce, and governance), then combine those scores into a single number. Data and governance are weighted slightly more because they're the foundations everything else depends on.
Why a geometric mean?
Most assessments use a simple average, which lets a business hide critical gaps. If you have great data systems but no AI policy, an average makes you look fine. We use a calculation that lowers your overall score when one area is significantly weaker than the others. That way the result reflects your actual readiness, not just your strongest area.
Can I retake the assessment?
Yes, anytime. Your answers aren't saved, so each retake starts fresh. We recommend retaking it every few months as your business changes.
What happens after I complete it?
You see your score, a chart showing how you did across the five areas, and a recommendation tailored to your specific gaps. If you share your email, we'll send a written copy of the report. If the recommendation includes a Steelhead engagement that fits your situation, you can book a discovery call to talk through it. If we're not the right fit for where you are right now, we'll point you toward what is.
